What you need to know about headaches

Many people only need to take an analgesic to relieve the pain, but sometimes it becomes unbearable, and the best solution is to see a naturopathic dr.

Primary headache

This is an independent condition. It includes:

  • Tension headache (TAH) is the most common type of primary headache. It is a squeezing or squeezing pain, as if a tight bandage were put on your head. Headache is episodic, and in rare cases, it becomes chronic. Episodic attacks can last from a few hours to a few days, while chronic GBN can be continuous.
  • Migraine is the second most common type of primary headache and begins during puberty, reaching its peak at age 35-45. With migraine, a person may also experience nausea, phonophobia and osmophobia, and some patients complain of decreased concentration.
  • Cluster headache is rare. It usually develops in people in their 20s and is more common in men. CGD attacks are short, frequent, and very severe-the person may have severe pain in the eye area with watering and redness, drooping eyelids, and a runny, stuffy nose on the side where it hurts. CCH can also be episodic and chronic.

Secondary headache.

Secondary headache can be associated with the development of various diseases of the body’s organs and systems, as well as the taking of certain medications. Here are a few reasons for its occurrence:

  • glaucoma
  • sinusitis
  • viral infections
  • brain tumors and other large neoplasms
    hemorrhage
  • fever, etc.

Most people have a primary headache, and in order to diagnose it, the doctor only needs to gather a medical history and study the patient’s medical history. But sometimes additional (in rare cases, emergency) examinations may be necessary. Before prescribing treatment, the doctor must be sure that the headache does not signal the presence of other pathologies, in other words, it is not secondary.

Is it possible to cope with a headache on your own and when to see a doctor?

For occasional headache, you can take an analgesic – a pain reliever. In most cases, a headache is the body’s reaction to stress, overexertion, hunger, lack of sleep and other lifestyle features. But there are symptoms that should alert you. For example:

  • the pain is impossible to tolerate, and with time it only gets worse
  • Your head has been hurting for a week or longer
  • Painkillers do not help.
  • Headache is intensified by changing the position of the body or by sudden movements

In this case, you need to see a general practitioner. At reception it is important to tell:

  • how long the headache is and what is the nature of the pain (pressing, throbbing, rasping)
  • in what part of the head is the pain concentrated
  • Can the pain be controlled with medication?
  • if you have any other complaints about your well-being
  • are you taking any medication
  • does any blood relative (mother, father, brothers or sisters) suffer from headaches

The naturopathic doctor will recommend additional examinations and help you choose the best medication for you, and if necessary, refer you to a neurologist.
